Job

April 25, 2007 at 7:27 pm (Uncategorized)

What we can learn from humanity is that the people with the most money, are the most powerful, and respected. They think because they are wealthy they are better than others. And by the way that others treat them, they believe it too.

We can learn that god believes in us as much as we believe in him. Because he knows that job will not curse at god, he is confidant that he will still believe that there is better out there.

We learn that with relationships there can always be surprises. One day you can have a wonderful life and family and the next they could all be gone. But job even had a good relationship with his friends, they sat on the ground with him for a week and did not say a word.

Job and his family were close the first time around. They would have dinners with each other and enjoy themselves. But you can tell that job did not treat them equally. The men were given the money, and the girls nothing. But when he lost his first family and hasd a new one, even in the time period, the daughters got a fair share of the inheritance. I think that job learns to appreciate his family, because he knows what could happen.

The Pigs Who Control Us

April 10, 2007 at 4:50 pm (Uncategorized)

In most people’s lives they have someone who controls them. Like Teachers for instance. In my life my school and my teachers seem to want us to mindlessly follow them.

Teachers are supposed to lead by example, but sometimes they are hypoacrytical. We are punished for tardyness, but often they are late. We are scolded if we forget something, but they can’t even remember what they have told us. For instance we get yelled at in jazz for not knowing the tag for a song, when the teacher did not even tell us what it was.

We are told to copy the way someone wants a project, but what is the point when our originallity can not show through. If we show the main point of our project, why do we have to post every informative detail.

Some teachers do tell us to follow our own ways. They ask us to show our opinions which makes us feel less controled. But still if late to this class you are punished with demerits. But because the opinions are diverse you end up with in depht discussions, instead of some one spitting back information.

The Dreaded Trial

March 19, 2007 at 4:41 pm (Uncategorized)

Ok so there was this trial last week, and we won , but my teacher does not think that my team deserved it. I was a lead attourney, and I worked really hard on the project. My thoughts of the trial was that it was ok but I think all of the teams in both classes would have done better if they had more time. I liked that we got a project that did not involve writing papers and taking a test, but once again time was an issue. I liked that we were in a group rather than by ourselves, but that lack of work on one persons behalf may lessen others grades. There should have been a rubrick to give to the whole team to ask them who did their work and who did not. My team did well in their performences. Scott was Mr. Chris Gardner from the persuit of happyness, and portrayed his character well. Luisa had to read an 800 page book and finished it before the trial, she was also a lawyer and was great, and made people give up their info. Emily was pheobe, and I could have sworn she was a 10 year old girl. Camille did the adventures of huck finn, and did well. She was also a good lawyer. Madison my other lead attourney wrote the opening stqatement and introduced our case. Connor did really well by making catcher look like the dream was alive. Kelly did their eyes were watching god, and that book is not an easy read. She did well. Doug was atticus, and he even had an accent, he would have dressed up, but he thought that he was going the next day. Julie did the freedom writers diary, and presented our case well. kyle was gatsby and told all what his american dream was. And Allyson was a lawyer and asked her questions and seemed like a real lawyer.

Mr. Amico you should be a judge!

Are they alike?

February 14, 2007 at 10:41 pm (Uncategorized)

All of the people of maycomb think that whites are better than blacks. But are mayella and tom more alike than different?

Both of the characters are looked down upon by the community. But because tom is black he is auttomaticlly lower. The community treats the two similarly. Tom is made work and is abused by the community, and mayella is made to work by her father and abused by him. Tom is shown disrespect because he is black. Mayella is shown disrespect because she and her family are poor and do not regularly attend school. They are alike in the fact that thay are looked down upon by the community. One because of how she lives her life, the other because of the color of his skin.

They are different in many ways. Tom works for what little he is given, and does not take this for granted. He is just trying to live his life the best he can with the racism where he lives. Mayella on the other hand does not do all that she can. She could easily work for a better life, or even go to more than one day of school to get a better job, or at least the best job a woman of her time could get. If she put all of the time into her life that tom does she would live better.

I think that the two are more alkie than the people of maycomb let on. The country at that time says that whites are better than blacks,so it is not possible that they could be lesser than a black family. They have many similarities, and some differences, but i think that they are more alike than different.

Is scout believable?

February 7, 2007 at 11:25 pm (Uncategorized)

It is true that this scene can be interpreted in many different ways. On one hand this could not happen in real life, in the other hand, scout is just nieve.

I think that atticus has shown scoout the better sides of people, and she expects the best in everyone. This is why I think when she was talking to Mr. Cunningham she was not scared.

She spoke to him as if he was just a passer by on the street that she had known for a long time. But when he listned to her talk about his son maybe he thought of what would happen to his family if he got hurt himself. In fact I do believe that the author is trying to scow that scout is innocent still, but she may be saying that every one has a compassionate side.

Scouts character throughout the book has changed in some ways. she has learned from her first teacher that some people believe that only teachers should teach, not dads. But scout thinks that her dad is not hurting her, but helping her. She has learned that eventually we all grow up and change our ways of thinking. She learned this when jem decided that he would not be seen with scout again in public. Scout is forced to see life differently when he older brother, who she has always relied on, has changed his opinons, and lifestyle.

In ways I think harper lee is trying to keep the young childs innocence as long as she can. That’s why when scout talks directly to a mob of people, that she only knows one person in can start a rousing conversation with him about his son.

As an answer to your question, Mr. Amico.

February 4, 2007 at 3:32 pm (Uncategorized)

I think that mocking birds are the central metaphor in the book because in this town there seems to be a problem with everyone, except the mocking bird. I think that they represent perfection in the imperfect world that they live in. I think the qoute is saying that it is wrong to kill something if it did nothing wrong. Maybe this way of thinking could be used in the case of the illeged rape.

In chapter 9 uncle jack was trying to resolve a problem between scout and her cousin. He only listned to one side of the story though, or in other words one persons point of view. This shows the importance of point of view because if he would have heard scouts side of the story he would have handled the situation differently.

What is their world?

January 24, 2007 at 10:24 pm (Uncategorized)

I think the world that dill, jem and scout have created is representive of their fears and asparations. In part one their relationship with boo is fear and curiostiy. The role that boo radley may play in part one is of the person that keeps the town gossip interesting. He may very well play a bigger part in the rest if the book.
